How old can an egg be before you try to incubate it?

I recently lost a couple of my favorite hens. I have some of their eggs in the fridge that are probably 6-8 weeks old and most likely fertile. I know the chance of hatching is remote, but has anyone ever been able to hatch an egg that was that old? Is it completely impossible?

Thanks, Christi

I have hatched an egg that was refrigerated, but I don't think mine was in the fridge more than a week. I'm really not sure because I don't know how long the original chicken owner refrigerated it before selling her eggs. I would think 6-8 weeks would be too long, but I could be wrong. I put 2 eggs in the incubator from the fridge and one of the 2 hatched. This actually happened within the past month. I have a cute little mixed breed chick from my egg.

I just read somewhere, someone in byc ...did hatch after eggs were in refrig...for 1mo....GOOD LUCK...post and let us see and all....pictures are always great also...
