Great ideas! We have two silkie roos. I haven't seen them have to ward off anything as the dogs take care of it, but they do break up fights between the hens.

My LGD is a border collie. She stepped in between a barn cat and this silkie mom's babies while she was parading around our yard. She and the Corgi keep watch around here for any varments. We live on the edge of a forest with farmers' fields on the other three sides, so lots of wildlife.

Fences help, plenty of shrub and tree cover helps. Shortening the time allowed to range helps.
