How unpleasant is the smell of rabbit urine?

If I want to keep a rabbit inside a cage in my bedroom how bad would the urine smell be until I have it neutered/spayed?

Not anywhere near as bad as cat urine.

It's not too bad if you keep the litter box clean. A rabbit sitting in dirty bedding in a cage is likely going to smell bad all around.
If you keep it in a large playpen (which is better than a cage for many reasons), it can stay out of dirty litter and can be properly litter trained. Pine horse stall pellets are known to be a smell free option. There are also other options but cat litter shouldn't be used since it contains clay, which can be toxic if ingested.

Zero rabbit piss smell from my litter box.
I use pine pellets and I scoop the pissy corner twice a day.

Whatever you do, make sure your rabbit cage is large enough for a large kitty litter box.

I am planning on using a dog play pen that is 2ft x 8ft. Is this size sufficient enough for one rabbit?

Yes, as long as the rabbit is getting daily free roam time a 2x8ft should be fine.

Any rabbit can be trained. The training part is up to the human.

Yes, rabbits who are not fixed can be trained, though if you get a younger rabbit then house training may become difficult at around 6 months when they reach sexual maturity.
For this reason, among others, I would recommend adopting an already fixed rabbit from a rescue. Adoption fees are often much less than spay/neuter costs, plus you'll be saving a life if you decide to adopt.

Rabbits are bad...they chew everything so what ever you do do not get a rabbit until you have a rabbit proof area ready to go with all supplies needed.
