So we had a broody hen that we think was killing her chicks as they hatched. She was setting on 8 eggs and after 6 of them hatched with none alive we decided to take the last two away from her. We dont have an incubator so my hubby kept them warm with an electric heater until we found our electric heating blanket, then he moved them to the blanket with a wet baby washcloth under them. I'm telling him at this point there is no way its gonna work after how hard it was in the incubator, but sure enough a day and a half later we have a chick.

I had to help him hatch a little which i know is a big no no, but he got a little dried out hatching that way and the membrane was a little stuck to him. Anyway, just thought I would share our story.

A friend of mine told me that worked for them too! I tried a heating pad. It didn't work for me but it did make hubby feel sorry for me and build me an incubator.
