Huge black scab and large lump

I noticed some ruffled feathers on my hen and was shocked to find this underneath. Any ideas on what on earth could have happened?

She could of been pecked or it could be an Abscessed feather follicle, or a tumour?

You may want to apply some warm soaks to the lump to get a better picture of it. Injuries from rooster spurs or a predator can show up looking like this, but as said earlier, tumors and impacted feather cysts can look similar. If it is hard it could be tumor, but if it is soft, there could be pus inside. After cleaning it with antiseptic, you could lance it and see what you can sqeeze out. Pus in chickens can be yellow and solid after some time. Let us know what you find out and good luck.
