My Cuckoo Maran laid her first egg. I went to let out the kids this morning and checked the boxes and low and behold there was an egg in one of the boxes that looked different from the BO's eggs. It was larger, darker and smoother. I brought it in to compare to the one in the fridge and it was completely different. YEA!!!!
I am sure it's not fertile. I haven't seen the cockerel being busy with any of them yet. (although maybe it happens behind closed doors)

Congratulations on the egg. Don't assume that the egg isn't fertile. The only way to know for sure is to break it into a dish and then look for the bullseye on the yolk. I had a Welsummer rooster that I never saw mate with a hen, yet the eggs were fertile.
