Hi,

I am hoping it's a she, and any idea "what" breed she is? I ordered Dominiques and Cuckoo Maran's, but (as I understand) Dom's have a rose comb and Marans have a single comb? But this doesn't look like a Maran's to me.

At 8 weeks, this bird is male. If he has white/pink legs he's a cuckoo Marans. The other option would be a barred Rock, with yellow legs.

I just checked and the legs are pink. So, Marans I guess.

Sad...can't have roosters.

Update: I sent an email to the hatchery to ask them about a refund, but they are saying "female". They will exchange or give me a credit if they turn out to be boys. Maybe I won't get rid of them yet.

I had this happen to me with a NH Red (see my post https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/822768/what-kind-and-what-sex-is-this) and I was 100% convinced it was a he because it was gigantic and so were the comb and wattles, BUT, I didn't give her away and waited. Good thing I did because she is a great layer! And again with this one (https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/723888/ee-with-no-muff), and this one turned out to be a she also.

These are the only two Maran's that I have so I really hope they turn out to be hens.
