Hello, BYC friends! I need some names for my chicks coming this March. I am getting the following breeds: 3 Americana (Americauna\Araucana), 4 Buff Orpington, 4 Barred Rock, 2 Golden Laced Wyandotte,3 Welsummer, and 2 Sapphire Gem. All female chicks... Also, how should I tell them all apart??

Hi Allie. Congratulations on your soon to be flock.
I’d like to suggest perhaps waiting until you get them and watching them for a while as they grow and feather out.
You’d be surprised how names will come to you as you start seeing personality develop.
I’ve found lots of great names just using Google lol.
I’ve actually Googled “names for hens/chickens”, etc.
I’ve developed a list on my smartphone of Chicken Names...it’s long :yesss:
As far as telling them apart, are you asking how to tell the different breeds apart as chicks?
You may want to save some photos of the chicks from each breed from the hatchery website to compare to. I’m not sure how else to do that.
Maybe others have better ideas? :idunno

For the 4 Amricanas....
Puffy-Cheeks (Since they grow up, their cheeks will be fluffy).
Prudence (They are very prudent).
Flappy (They can be, er, very flappy. You know, love to fly)?
Grace (Eh, no reason for this one).

For the 4 Buff Orpingtons....
Goldie (The color, of course).
Ginger (Kind of the color, but not really. It's more of like a name that suits them).
Sunflower (Personality and color).
Fluffy (My orpingtons have very fluffy down feathers).

For the 4 Barred rocks...
Moonlight (For the blackish color).
Tiny (Some are very tiny, plus one of ours that died was named Tiny).
Blossom (IDK!!!!).
Sweetie (This is about their personality).

For the 2 Golden Laced Wyandottes....
Gold`e (Pronounced more like "Gold-ay, for the golden laces).
Twinkle (EH, IDK).

For the 3 Welsummers...
Cookie (For the color).
Sweet Pie (Personality).
Moon (Idk, just a good name).

For the 2 Sapphire Gems...
Bluey (The Color. I think)
Midnight (Color).

You can tell your chickens apart by getting chicken leg bands. Just buy them at a local feed store or on the internet. I think they sell special ones for chicks.

I mean like one BO from the other BO, that sorta thing...
Oh yes that can be tough!
I have three Silver Laced Wyandottes.
They each looked a bit different as chicks.
Now it’s harder to tell them apart.
I call them the triplets.
I just told my husband today that I need to get a picture of all three of their butts lol!
That’s how I tell them apart.
Penelope has a silvery gray butt, Pepper has a medium gray butt & Coco has a charcoal gray butt.
Penelope also has more white on her breast.
BO would be really hard to tell apart! I never thought about that.

I have 4 Leghorns. I banded them recently to keep track of laying, but before that there was "that annoying leghorn" and "the rest of the Leghorns".

:gig

:gigExactly!
Penelope has an AKA...Ditzy.
That bird is weird
She’s always frantically trying to catch up to everyone else because she doesn’t realize they’ve moved on to another part of the yard. It’s funny
