I purchased 4 hens from a nearby chicken enthusiast. We believed all four to be pullets. She told me if we were wrong I could always take a roo back to her. The sweetest girl of them all who would let you hold her and was just sooooo loving I named Sweet Girl (was out of original names). This week she started being much less sweet and willing to be my friend and was more aloof and much more talkative. I noticed her chatting sounded a little different from the rest. Started looking at her tail and neck feathers and realizing they look different than my other girls. I sent pics to her first mom and she agrees - she is a HE!! I’m so sad because my HOA lets us all get away with having hens even though we aren’t supposed to have them (we live in a rural area, the HOA was created by the builder and we will likely get rid of it when they leave in a year or so. Even the HOA board members have chickens). But I don’t think I can get away with a rooster! So she / he probably is gonna have to move out soon. So. Sad!!!
Just want to get some additional insights to be sure we aren’t misdiagnosing it!! Hen or roo????
For reference - she/he is 22 weeks old. We aren’t positive her/his breed but believe it to be a legbar mix of some kind.
