I received a cackle crazy chicken lady package from 13september hatch. I received 14 very healthy chick's that I had integrated and living as free range chick's within 7 days ( I had 2 bloodiest hatch chick's 2 days before they arrived, while they did not take them they do bully any flock member who might be rough. And my foundling game Cockrell has sort of adopted them..anyway..I know I have a legbar, light and dark brahma and an ameraucauna ...I suspect a Sussex and welsummer but two of the similar don't match those.i suspect an australorp, Dominique and a barred rock..figured out the little pure yellow is a leghorn.. I think I caught the ones I'm working on figuring out

It’s too early to know I think, but I’ll throw out some guesses!

The last one might be a Rhode Island Red, and the golden one could be a Buff Orpington. It’s hard to know with any of the chipmunk chicks, but they look a lot like Welsummers or Speckled Sussex. If the blue one has muffs, which I think I can see in the photo, then I’d say it’s maybe an Easter Egger. Hard to see the barred chicks well enough, but if they have a rose comb then they’re Dominiques, single comb would be Barred Rocks.

Please update in a few weeks, I’d love to see who they all turn out to be :)

Yeah..one is definitely an ameraucauna ( cackle tries to include a few rare breed and they have real ones...plus it is identical to my blue from meyers at that age.. ) I have a Dominique pullet and I do think that one is.. I have sussexs, welsummers and jubilee Orringtons. But chipmunks are hard for me to distinguish. I am sure one is a Plymouth rock as most people seem to get one .. I have june6 pullets I'm still not sure of andhave given up trying asit was a meyers rare breed and ended up with a bunch of black ( I lost 2 early on to a hen killing two..she was removed where she is one of 3hens zero roosters and no chick's as those were 2 light colors )

I see! I’m not familiar enough with Ameracaunas to differentiate them from EEs. That’s pretty cool that they gave you a one in your mix!

I’m sorry you lost two chicks previously :(
I hope all of these chicks grow up well for you!

From what I have been told they usually put an Ameraucauna and a legwarmers in that particular mix..

I free range in the most original sense so I have had a couple losses, never to predators ( with 1 exception- blue heron got a bbs ameraucaunapullet ) the only other losses were less than 5 day old chick..I have been fortunate..have lots of breeds while I sorted what works best here..have a jubilee opinion roo, bbs
Ameraucauna roo, speckled Sussex roo, jersey giant..a lovely mix, golden sebright. Then 4 that are leaving 2 sebright mixes very, very small , an eager roo ( legbars mix ) and a deleware...I like the big calm birds but like the bantam and small birds but because they start free ranging so early all forage far and wide..we shall see going into 3rd year.. slowly moving to figure out good mix for brown/colored eggs.. and heat hardy and good foragers..

I don’t free range my birds, but I do take them out to forage for about 2-3 hours a day. I had no idea herons predate on young chickens! We have one that is always in our creek near the coop, I’ll have to keep an eye on it.
