So here's my dilemma:

I live in San Francisco and am only allowed to have four chickens. Because of this fact, I have spent many hours researching what breeds I want to own. I found a local store that has three of the four chicks I would like to raise, but the fourth breed (Welsummer) is more difficult to find. I have found two breeders in the area that have Welsummers, but the hatch date of these breeders is two weeks after the other chicks I plan on getting. One of the breeders said this:

And the other breeder said this:

On here it is usually considered safe to mix chicks of different ages, as long as they are all under 4 weeks.

I mix chicks of different ages quite often. Not usually one chick but thats because I cant help myself. I would agree younger then 4 weeks old shouldnt be an issue. They just run around together, it should be ok.

i have also put diff aged chicks together -- never had a problem.
