(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I have been wanting chickens for quite a while but when a friend of mine bought a home with a coop I really went crazy about them. My husband Bob started building our coop in August 2020. We got our first chick on December 22, 2020.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We currently have 17 but can go up to 20. He is building a second coop for our Bantam breeds.

(3) What breeds do you have?
We have 14 breeds now, Crested Cream Legbar, Barred Rock, Brown Leghorn, Black Mottled Frizzled Cochin Orpington mix, Silver Laced Wyandotte, Easter Egger, Sapphire Gem, 2 Turkens - Buff White & Black, Black Southern Rambler, Golden Laced Polish, Sultan, 2 Showgirls - Blue Mottled & White, Mille Fleur d'Uccle, 2 Silkies - Partridge and White Sizzle

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
They are incredibly entertaining, never a dull moment, gives me a reason to get outside, love animals, they are beautiful to look at.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I love boating, fishing for nothing, playing games on my phone.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.I live with my husband Bob in Winter Haven, FL. We moved here 3 years ago from the burbs of Philadelphia, PA but we both lived there in Philly for over 50 years. We lost our mother's 6 weeks apart which enabled us to move finally because we bought our first Florida home in 2013 to retire but our mom's kept us up there since I took care of them both... Bittersweet. I had cats all of my life and used to foster and bottlefeed, my favorite & do volunteer work with a spay/neuter group for years. I was down to my last 3 when 2 passed very close together leaving me with one when my sister who was watching her while I was on vacation in FL refused to give the last one back to me, leaving me without cats for the first time since I was a kid. I had a dog, a Cocker Spaniel/Chow mix at the time & decided to adopt another, Roxxee, a Pomeranian who became my service dog when she was able to detect my drops in sugar (I'm hypoglycemic) & was also able to get me out of my muscle spasms better than my meds (I broke my neck in '99 & get severe spasms all over my body).
. I worked at Disneyworld until March 16th 2020 when they closed due to Covid and was officially laid off on December 31st, 2020. I'm praying once they increase capacity again they will call me back. They have 2 years to do this. I LOVED working there, pre-Covid.
