Optunia cactus are not little house plants and they do grow in Illinois, and can take a lot of rain if the soil drains well. They dehydrate for winter, so their cells won't freeze and rupture. They also grow very fast. Maybe I can get my brother to post a couple pictures this weekend. OR I could mail photos to you Cynthia, and you could post them for me.
