Some broodies are always on the edge of being broody. And if she isn't setting on eggs it harmful to her to be devoting her time for nothing, going without food or caring for herself. She is probably still a bit broody plucking feathers, possibly molting.I have a few questions about my Rhode Island Red hen Mandy. She was brooding for about a month. We stopped her from going in her nesting cube, almost a week ago. Since then she has been plucking feathers and has lost so much weight. If you know what I should do please help.
I'd stop her from going broody for a while, keep her away from the nest boxes, make her go outside for a while, confine her to the run. She should get back to eating once she stops with her broodiness.
