Is it ok to take the shell out from under the hen after the chick has hatched?

I couldn’t really find a clear answer on the internet so I’m asking here. We went out at 10:30 this morning and found a beautiful fluffy mixed color chick! We took the egg shell out thinking nothing of it but was that bad?

As long as you did not disturb the hen - no problem. It can help keep other eggs from becoming encased in the empty shell.

As long as the chick is completely unattached, and the hen is not freaking out at your presence. On the other hand it doesn't hurt to leave them there either. Imho

Normally the hen will kick it out or eat it on her own. If you didn't disturb the bird then nothing wrong was done.
