Is it time to cull?

Agreed, broom stick is my go to when culling a bird that won't be invited to dinner. I use sharp garden nippers for chicks.

Well, we did the deed today. Culled 4 birds using the good old fashioned stump and hatchet method. One of the sentenced birds got out of the run this morning before I could catch her so she gets a stay. I can't believe how they move, even after having their heads cut off. I am glad I watched a few youtube videos so I knew what to expect.

Now I am all set up with a heating pad and brooding pen out in the run under the coop. The new chicks arrive next week!

And that is the best part, culling is always hard, but that means you can get new chicks!
