Hi, This is Sambo. We got He/She in late August. Not sure how old He/She is. Was not fully feathered when we got it and was almost all black. I'm guessing maybe 3 wks old or so at the time which would make it about 16 weeks now.

He/She is fast becoming head Hen/Cock. He/She occasionally will jump on the other chick that is her size if the chick is laying down. They will do the behavior where they face each other and stand up tall and peck. It never is a serious fight and generally they get along fine.

Also does anyone know what kind of chicken this is? We live in Israel and my grandson got them from an Arab farmer so it might be a mix.

Thanks,

Peggy

I think you have a mixed breed chicken and am leaning toward roo right now.

The comb and cuckoo barring is wrong for a pure barred rock.

The comb and feet color is wrong for pure cuckoo maran.

The cuckoo barring and body is wrong for a pure dominique.

I have a barred rock pullet that is about the same age. Her legs are much smaller and she is very fat and fluffy under the tail area. If you compare the two I would say yours looks more like a rooster to me.

When I saw the comb I immediately thought dominique. However I'm not sure on the body type for such, so I can't really give a good guess.

I'd guess it's a cockerel if it's only 2 months old.
