Is that a pond over there?

We love our chickens.
We need to get some ducks but there is a 1 acre pond 200yrds away in plain view.
How could I ensure that we don't buy some ducks and they just walk for a swim and fly away or never come back. The pond is my neighbors and they don't mind if we have ducks in there

Not all breeds can fly. If you go with a medium or heavy breed you shouldn't have a problem with them flying off. Not coming off the pond might be a different problem. You'd defiantly have to teach them where home is, so you'd have to keep them fenced in your yard for a few weeks. I can't give any advise beyond that as I've never had to try to get ducks off a pond.
