Hi everyone.

Can anyone confirm that this egg is dead?

I tried my best to save a lone sparrow egg that I found after the rest of the nest and mom was killed by a crow. The nest was in a wreath on my patio door. I brought the egg inside on April 4th and I could see its beating heart while candling. I kept it at a steady 99.5 degrees until an incubator arrived April 6th. It was doing fine for a couple days but then I think I sadly saw a blood ring.

Stupidly I've kept it running at the right humidity and temperature since because I wasn't 100% sure. Candling pictures are the best, sorry, but visibly without candling, I can see most of the egg is dark (it's gotten darker over the last month) except for a crescent moon shaped area of the egg. I noticed today that the egg has cracking in it. Do bad eggs crack? I don't believe it is alive and pipping..

Thank you!

I applaud your effort, and not to be heartless, but English/House sparrows are a huge problem in the U.S. Here on our farm, we don't let them nest, but the neighbor has horses and donkeys so they live mostly in her barn. If allowed to be here, I've seen it with my own eyes how they built a nest on top of a bluebird nest that had three eggs in it. They are considered invasive.
