ISO: One or two broody hens.

I got a Silkie Hen a while back, hoping she would set but it hasn’t happened....Maybe I should try isolating her?

Yes, she is more likely to go broody without the interference of the other chickens. Below is a picture of a tiny serama I wished to go broody. I brought her and a tiny rooster into the house. She laid daily until she had eight eggs. At that time the hen went broody. Her eggs should hatch next week.

There some who disagree that this works, but it does for me; usually.

After isolating the silkie hen, with or without a rooster, the hen is most likely to stop laying eggs for awhile, but maybe not. When the hen lays leave the eggs in the nest or replace the eggs as they are laid with a dummy egg. 8 to 15 eggs later the hen will go broody----if she has the broody instinct.
