Can you add another layer of styrofoam around the outside or better yet, build a box around it? and put a wooden hinged door on it too, with the top attached to it.

How cold is the room it is in?

Is it hard to keep the top/now door tight?

it is not that it is cold but swings from 105 to 92

Oh youre using a water heat thermo? Those have been left behind. Yeah get rid of that - not enough resolution.
Just spend the few bucks on regular wafer type or one of the reptile kind mentioned. Youll be a lot better off.

I bought the Ranco prewired, it's costly but works great, it has a 1 degree differential......
