Such happy chooks! It'll be months before our soil dries out enough for an open air dirt bath; my girls would be so envious if they knew.

My birds do this several times a day. It’s like a game to see who can get in the middle.

I love this!!! "Get in the middle and repel all boarders!" (And, ooops, don't slip down the slope...) They truly are little dinosaurs, especially close up. Love your slow-motion sequences, too.

The first time I saw mine dust bathing, I thought they were dead, and dying, in their last throws of life! Scared the Witts out of me and then they just jumped up and shook off!

Absolutely! If I hadn't read about it and seen some videos, I'd have thought my chicks were dying horribly in convulsions!

Same thing with their awkward sprawls while sunbathing. Early in our chicken adventure, my husband walked past the chicken yard on a sunny day and saw them all splayed out in weird positions and not moving. "I was about to come tell you all your new chickens were dead - then remembered what you said about them sunbathing!" Yup, the girls were sacked out, crops full, just catchin' some rays...

i knew what to expect and even still, every now and then they'll just look so Flat that i'm like are you...ok? and then i get glared at and laugh at myself for forgetting its just dust bathing time
