Hello, my wife and I are new here. We now have chickens (Bantam & silver laced Wyandotte) and have penned them in together. They are still quite young and seem to be perfectly happy. We are constructing their permanent housing now and wonder if we will need to separate the Roos from the hens?
It depends on how many Roos and hens you have. A good ratio is approximately 10 hens per rooster. If hens make up at least 90 percent of your flock they should mix fine. If a higher percentage are roosters you will need to thin the roosters out before they reach maturity.
Good luck with your poultry raising adventures, and I hope you find everything you need to know. Don't forget to take a look at BYC's very useful learning center (If you haven't already)! The learning center as well as the forum should answer your questions! There is always something new to learn! Glad to have you here! See you around with the flock.
