Awesome thread about healthy eating. I joined Weight Watchers last April and have lost almost 30 pounds. I still want to lose 10-20 more before I reach my goal. I'm very tall, so I can carry a lot of extra weight without it really showing, but I was definitely noticing a difference in my body...needed to change things up and pursue a healthier lifestyle.
What I like about Weight Watchers is that it's not really a diet per se... You can still eat whatever you want, just in moderation. What I did to lose 30 pounds was eat less and move more. I did try to "slim down" some of our favorite recipes and try new foods, eat more veggies, etc. That kind of thing keeps one full longer and is part of a healthy lifestyle. The lifestyle, mental, and behavior changes are what is going to help someone take the weight off -- and more importantly, keep it off.
I'll be watching this thread since there are a lot of good ideas in here. Congrats to everyone who is losing weight and working on fitness!
I LOVE weight watchers! I did WW about 3 years ago and lost 50lbs. I love the points system. One of my favorite recipes is the shrimp and corn soup. I just printed it out last week so that I can include it in my healthy eating plan once I have completed this juice cleanse. WW is awesome!!!!
I have been on the vegetarian thread and they are also teaching me about healthy foods to eat. I am now more aware of food labels and what our foods are made of. So, I will try to eat more natural foods and try to eliminate processed foods.
I also need to start exercising. I found a Nordic Trac elliptical on Craigslist that i will be getting next weekend. I'm excited about exercising.
So far have juiced oranges and apples for the kids, have a green recipe I am about to try, will post it, in fact that may be my lunch. I am not looking to do a cleanse yet, but am doing WW and looking to kick day off with a juicer recipe and then be moderate with WW the rest.
Oh, yah, I am doing this to get healthy, could stand to lose a bunch of weight but right now trying to get in shape, eat well. My husband and I and several family members have signed up for warrior dash in June! We thought a goal like that was more reasonable (lol) than just trying to 'diet.'. It has got to be permanent. Look up warrior dash, see what you think. I was 40 as of August and have 5 and 6 year old kids, I need to kill this blood sugar issue if I want to be healthy and happy! I was also a gestational diabetic, I used insulin and I dont want to do that again until I do everything in my power to get healthy!
Also will stay away from overly heavy fruit recipes as part of the drive to change food intake, I saw my blood sugar creeping up. So, until that is under control, will stick with whole fruits, and juice my veggies. So glad there is such support here. I love the Aldis juicer so far, price was spectacular at 24.95. Easy to clean and seemed to work well so far.
This thread prompted me to ask for a juicer for Christmas. We used it for the first time today, just some apples, oranges, pineapples and strawberries, but it was delicious. Can't wait to try more recipes!
I was at the store the other day thinking about making smoothies as breakfast/snacks to help cut down on the bad foods that I eat when I found this post and I'm very curious to try it but I have some questions/concerns. I'm hoping you guys can help me before I dive in.
Unfortunately my mom doesn't like fruit and so growing up we didn't eat a lot therefore don't have the taste for it.
I can't do the cleanse...I work 24hrs at a time and I can't exactly pull over the ambulance on the way to the ER because the cleanse "hit me". LOL
As much as I would like to be an adult....if I can't find a few mixes I like....I won't drink it. I have never been able to MAKE myself eat/drink something nasty....hence why I don't drink alcohol at all. LOL
I think I will do best with a more fruit basted/tasting drink than the veggie...think hiding veggies for the kids. Is this reasonable/possible?
How well does the juice store? I would be working 24hrs and would want to take it with me to work. If it doesn't keep then this isn't an option for the days I work....which is when I make the poorest food choices.
Is there a good place to get a list of recipes?
With all of my parameters would it be better to just get a blender and make smoothies?

LOL @ pull the ambulance over because it "hit" you.
Well, I'm a total newbie, so I am not experienced as the others on the thread, so I can only tell you about my measly 22 days.
I love veggies but I didn't think that I would like them "juiced". And I love fruit so I knew that I would love them juiced. Now the two of the together, I was like "NO WAY". I was kinda, sorta, a little bit, but could have been more prepared. I bought the juicer, the fruit and some veggies but I didn't have recipes. I had combinations. When I juiced the fruit, they were DELICIOUS! I juiced some veggies but I only enjoyed the carrots and beets, so I was limited and I didn't want to ruin my fruit juice by adding veggies. My juvenile mentality. So for the last 22 days, I have been drinking about 70% fruit juice and 30% juice. So I pretty much didn't follow the juice cleanse as I should have.
I would suggest to you, to get various fruit AND veggie combination recipes and try them. That was my downfall. However, I did lose 14lbs in 3 weeks but I think I could have lost more if I would have incorporated more veggies. You can Google juice cleanse recipes and you can find recipes. Also, the juice cleanse experts on this thread can share recipes with you.
As far as how it stores.....well, let's just say that it doesn't take long to separate, so you will have to give it a shake. I think someone on this thread said something about adding a little lemon juice. I juice early in the morning and take it to work and I sip/drink all day long. Do you have a small cooler that you can keep it in for work?
The juice cleanse is an excellent detox program that does work. There are so many benefits - weight loss, more energy and releasing all of those nasty toxins from your body. You can always try the 3 day cleanse and see how that goes. The 30 day cleanse is much more extreme. And remember to check with your doctor for clearance to begin this cleanse - especially if you have health issues.
