Just how "stinky" is stinky?

I love the idea of lavender being thrown into the run!

I love this idea... is it safe for chickens to eat lavender and/or rosemary? What about lemon balm? Knowing my little chicks they'd think anything I toss in the run was a special treat for them to eat.

I've also been curious about how stinky is stinky. I was day dreaming about natural odor absorbers like baking soda in cheese cloths hanging out of chicken reach. Thanks for asking.

I just read "Let It Rot" about composting. I think he nitrogen in chicken poo goes up considerably when the poo is dried before putting it in the compost. I live in Northern Nevada and drying anything out is really easy (humidity in the single digits). I currently dry the poo first then put it in my compost. However, I only just started composting. I have really no smell from the coop/run mostly related to two things: Low humidity and I pick up poo 2 or more times a day in the run - I have 6 hens.
