A leghorn rooster over a legbar hen would result in females without barring but the males would be barred.

Ah right. Of course. I was only keeping females from this hatch anyway, so this works out. The leghorns are getting split up into their breeding pens this coming week and won't be free-ranging again until probably... April? May? Poor kids! Setting up two trios of light browns, and a trio with the dark brown cockerel over Isabella girls. I'm curious about the effects of the mahogany modifier, but I'll probably swap in a light brown male after I do a hatch or two with the dark brown boy.

It seems unfair, but the Legbars and the Houdans do not consort at all (or fight, oddly,) when I let them out to free-range, so perhaps they won't lose yard privileges. Is that unfair to the bratty leghorns?! :lau
