Need genetic advice ....
My 5 random eggs hatched in a first incubator run. The rooster is a pure Lavender Orpington. I do not have laying Lavender Orpington hens at this point. To my surprise I have 2 chicks with what appears to be the lavender color with feathered legs. The laying hens I have with feathered legs are a Pure White Cochin and Light Brahmas. All eggs were from the same day of laying. At that time I should of only had one white cochin laying(roo favorite). I have two others but I really don't think they were at that time. They would of been 18 weeks and my roo didn't take interest in them. He does now though! Side note, I have one all black chick(legs and beak) with feathered legs that hatched also.
Understanding that the Lavender gene seems to take a back seat to everything unless with another Lavender, what about a pure white? Officially baffled!

Your chicks look blue. White cochins are recessive white so they could be anything underneath. I would say the mother if indeed it was a white cochin carries blue or splash.
If the chicks have single combs mother is the cochin. If mother is the brahma chicks will have a pea comb.

That makes sense. I expected everything to hatch pretty much black with an occasional 2nd color mixed in with the black. Very surprised over the "blue". Thank you for your knowledge!!!!
