I have 2 Lavender Sussex Chickens, one is 19 Weeks Old and one is 16 weeks old. I believe the older one is a rooster, the wattles are red but the comb is still a pinkish colour, the younger chicken still has pinkish wattles and comb. Please see images below.

Is this going to be Big Bertie or Big Berta?

Is this going to be Little Bertie or Little Berta?

All feedback would be appreciated as I am unsure what gender they are?

Hi there, hope you are enjoying BYC! :frow

Unfortunately, I do agree with other that both are cockerel... the second one with a funky comb looks particularly tasty. :drool

Saddle feathers usually start around 12 weeks in *most* breeds...

The Sussex do look nice in Lav! :love

ETA: they don't earn their rooster (or hen) badge until 1 year old, mostly relative when discussing development and behavior. Until then it's technically cockerel or pullet.
