Laying eggs so hard they break?

Wal~Mart has door mats that I use. I think they call them shoe scrubber mats (or something similar).

They do a good job of scrubbing the shoes too!!

Wonders tho if they are not maybe as soft as the nest pads made just for chickens and if that might be a detrimental?

I have never had any laying pads. Mine don't seem to mind them. The spines that stand up are not very stiff. My hens get in the nest and scratch and scratch to fluff them up.
