Pekin drake about 4 years old!!! I’m sure no one is shocked that’s he’s having leg problems. Our female is too. She limps and has her legs close together so she steps on her own feet.

But the drake is my first priority because he is so bad! It started in spring and has just gotten worse until it flattened out. Limps and using his wings and bill on he ground to not fall. He has started to step on the top of his foot! Starting yesterday. When he swims his legs are more behind him than underneath him. He’s hurting and I feel awful.

We tried having him rest in a small area for a while but it didn’t help. I just switched to swimming exercises. I’m not sure what to do. The only vet that will take a duck couldn’t get me an appointment until July 24th! Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Can you add a picture of him standing? Or at least trying to stand?
It’s like he has trouble bending his joints. I can bend them ok though and he doesn’t freak out

I think water therapy is a good idea - generally speaking for people and animals, its use it or lose it.

Whats his diet like ?

Are poo's the usual ?

Do you get a sense its physical and local to the legs or do you think he's not right overall (if that makes sense).

He's a lovely looking duck. X
His poos are normal and is acting himself otherwise. He eats pellet feed for all poultry and I put niacin in their water. He also eats bird seed, watermelon and lettuce now and then. He does seem to have lost a little weight but I think that’s because he’s having trouble getting to the food and I have to keep bringing it to him or putting it in front of him.
Thank you for your thoughts!

I might consider bumping up the niacin or adding a wider b complex and perhaps ace+ selenium. Perhaps also have his own drinking water and you make sure he has a glug every hour or so on top of his own regime ?

Also, if he's having problems getting about I would keep an eye out for dehydration.

May sound daft if he's swimming etc but it happened to one of mine this year - we added buckets around the place and she perked up a lot. Still cannot work out how that happened.....

I am keeping positive thoughts for your boy.

Good luck !
