The first week the chicks should be kept at 90 to 95 degrees. Turn down the heat 5 degrees weekly until they are fully feathered, between 6 and 8 weeks. At 3 weeks old yes, they still need heat all day and night. Basements are not known to be terribly warm. So unless your basement is around 80 degrees, keep that heat lamp on

Someone else posted that chart not long ago....I'm not sure where it came from but it needs to go bye-bye. Sure can cause a lot of confusion with people who haven't done this before.
