Some of those sites will tell you what you want to know. Believe it or not, the most useful so far has been the http://www.cooksinfo.com site. They do a good job of describing the origin of the breeds.
Please be aware that I am finding the Wiki list to be full of redundancies. It turn out the APA (American Poultry Association), PCGB (Poultry Club of Great Britain), EE (European Association of Poultry-, Pigeon- and Rabbit breeders) and APS (Australian Poultry Standards) name the breeds differently, and the Wiki list contains all variants.
E.g., Pekins. The EE recognizes and differentiates two types of Pekins: "American Pekin" and "German Pekin." The APA calls the "American Pekin" plain old "Pekin", but does not recognize "German Pekin." The APS calls the "American Pekin" the "Pekin duck." On the other hand, the PCGB recognizes the "German Pekin," but calls it "Pekin Duck"; it does not recognize the "American Pekin." I am not sure if the case is significant for either the PCGB or the APS, but it is consistent for both. (Sheesh!)
I'm trying to weed out the redundancies in my spreadsheet, but I am listing all of the names I find.
