Hey all, I'm posting this for a friend as we're both very worried and confused.
Her little D'uccle roo has taken a turn for the worst out of nowhere and isn't doing very well.
I've never seen anything like this so I'm not sure how to help her treat him, hoping someone here can help!
She has him separated from the flock and has been giving him nutridrench as well as a medicated supplement (not sure of the name I'll find out and post after) but he's not doing well.
This rooster is about 4 months old and to my knowledge wasn't vaccinated against anything as a chick. He has started to lose weight as well. His eyes are swollen and he mostly lays down but has become more active over the last 2 days. I'm very worried and would hate to see her lose this little guy but I'm not sure exactly what's wrong with him as I've never seen such a thing in my flock or in any of the flocks around me.
I hope somebody knows what's going on and could help us!
(please also keep in mind I have no contact with this bird, he's 5,000 miles away. I'm just hoping to help a friend)

He has a bad case of avian or fowl pox, and it is a virus caused by mosquitoes. There is no treatment for it, except since his eyes look affected, I would clean them with saline, and apply Terramycin Eye ointment from a feed store twice a day. If she can't find that, get plain Neosporin or Vetericyn Eye Gel. Put some iodine on the scabs to help dry them up. Look inside his beak and throat with a flashlight to make sure there are not yellow patches of wet pox blocking his airway. Pox lasts about 3 weeks, and they can get weak and not eat well, so she needs to make sure that he is getting nourishment. Good luck. Here is some info about pox:
