My birds free range. As a result my yard is very well fertilized, and mallow has taken over. Like whoa bad. Mow and a week later its almost waist high. My chickens and ducks get lost in it, they have discovered its great to hide nests in, i discovered stepping on eggs isnt so great.
I also noticed this morning my ducks are pigging out on it. I have to assume they have been doing this for awhile now and arent dead yet, but just in case, is it sqafe for them?
I know it is for humans. I have a bird free patch i have used for salads and making cough syrup... And my idiot dog eats it, but she eats anything.
If its not so ok for birds i will start penning them up cuz there is no way in creation i can remove almost 4000 sf of this crap

I don't have any answers for you, but my yard has lots of mallow in it, too. I also use mallow in medicinal preparations so I haven't tried eradicating it. We just mow and it knocks it back. I've seen my younger pullets eating mallow and so far no problems that I can see. I wouldn't worry much about it as long as they're eating their regular feed and getting a balanced diet. :)
