My mandarin duck pair arrived 2 days ago. Their outdoor enclosure isn’t quite ready yet so they’re being kept in a renovated horse stall (added a small pool, tree limbs, and lots of hiding places)

They seem to be settling in, but I can’t tell if they’re eating, and it has me worried. I’m feeding them a mixture of chicken starter crumbles, leafy greens, mealworms, and exotic waterfowl pellets. They’re always hiding when I enter the barn, which seems normal since they’re shy birds, but I also haven’t needed to fill their food bowl nor do I notice the food disappearing.

They’ll be moved to their permanent outdoor enclosure this weekend, which will make me less nervous. Will they be alright?

Gorgeous birds.
Environmental changes often result in impaired metabolism in animals. Particularly more so with a wild bird such as Mandarin. After a couple of days, I bet you will notice them eating more, and becoming more active.
