I recently picked up 2 cuckoos and was told both were pullets, but as they grow they look somewhat different. one is smaller, lighter in color and seems to have more red around its eyes. they are 9 weeks old. When i call the hathery i was told that they were female if i bought female Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks Rick

a female Cuckoo Maran chicks is a lot darker then the males who are a more greyish color. You should be able to tell this even after they hatch.

I have three 4 week old Golden Cuckoo Marans, two girls and a roo. Both the coloring differences and comb development between them are already so prominent. Have you compared their combs?

On both birds combs are the same it just looks so different than the other. Like there is going to be wattles around the eyes on the one in question.

With the barred chicks the pullets are dark and the cockerels are light.
