I am really new at this, but my husband isn't, so I am depending on his advice and also that of anyone on BYC to help me figure out if I have mites, or not. My chicks are only 9 weeks old and they all look healthy. I have 4 Spangled Russian Orloffs and they are the only ones that are showing missing feathers on their neck. At first it was the little one, and I suspected it was being picked on. This was a couple of weeks ago, now the other R.S. Orloffs are showing the same symptoms. I have 30 chicks all together and 25 of them came in the same shipment; 5 were purchased locally and only a couple of weeks older. I know that it is said to check for mites at night. I will do this tonight, but wouldn't all of the chickens have mites and be losing feathers? Thanks for any help you may have to offer.
At this point, the mentioned Orloffs are the only ones missing neck feathers.
