Mix chickens

Hello everyone- my neighbor is giving me 6 chickens (8 weeks old) and my wife bought 4 silkies (3 weeks old) - were getting the 6 chickens very soon , but would we be able to mix the 4 silkies in with them? And if so how soon ?

Keep them in pens near each other and then when the silkies are off heat allow them to see each for another week . Then when you are can moniter them for the day introduce them to each other, there may be some fighting but don't stop it unless it gets too nasty.

Hi and welcome to BYC. I'd suggest reading up on the subject matter. Personally i would not attempt to mix them until the silkies are around 6 weeks old.

Usually chicks that grew up together get along but, silkies (and also polish) tend to be picked on because they look so different. Silkies are also much more likely to be attacked by predators (need more safeguarding) because their crests and beards obscure their vision. Also silkie wing feathers are not good for flying. They can jump but, that's about it.
