Molting

Can some one help me,what is it mean when your chicken is molting an what is it.

'Molting' is when chickens lose their feathers and grow new feathers. It may be a gradual process or they may suddenly lose most of their feathers and look like two legged porcupines with their new feather growth.

Ha! sourland gave a great description! Google it..you find all sorts of funny photos of them during their molt.

It's a natural process for them but, giving them some extra protein can help them grow back good feathers.

Once a year for birds over a year old. Usually at the end of summer or early in the fall.
