Ok guys I noticed the black dot on both of her feet a month or two ago and was able to remove it. now one of her foot is severely swollen. the web part is hot red and swollen. i have used an exacto knife and cut into
the black spot on the swollen foot. i didnt see any yellow kernal. there was pus that came out. Foot is still basically same size of puffiness after I squeezed out the pus. her foot is still red and swollen after the procedure. is this normal for it to be the same size and puffy? will the swelling go down? or should i poke at the web part of her feet and see if i can get more pus out?

Are you using some type of antibiotic ointment like Neosporin?

If it's red, hot, and swollen, that sounds like it got infected. If that got a scab over it, yes, then I'd try open it back up, squeeze the pus out, rinse it with a sterile saline solution, then put the antibiotic ointment on it and wrap a bandage on it with vet wrap or something similar. I would keep the duck in a box, cage, or something to keep it from getting it dirty or wet for a couple of days. Change the bandage a couple of times a day.

Hope it gets better!

I have went into bottom of the foot and got as much out as I could. It’s been a week, the swelling hasn’t went down one bit between the toes. It is softer sometimes. How do I proceed? Should I cut into the space between her toes? Where can I get a calendula bath to soak her feet in? How long will it take the swelling to go down or what does it mean when the space between her feet has been swollen?

Sorry I called it a duck. When you said "web" I thought duck.

That looks so sore and painful. I'd be soaking that but assume you are. I have used a rubber dishpan or just the kitchen sink. Even a bucket would work.

Do you have some PRID or drawing salve? That might help pull out the infection. If so, soak it first, then when dry, apply your antibiotic cream (Neosporin) first, then the PRID. Repeat this a couple of times a day and I bet that will help!

Yes I’ve been soaking it and using prid and neosporin.I’ve peeled off the scab at the bottom of the foot. And got some pus out. I think I got some yellow kernel out the second time. It’s still swollen around the toes. Not sure what to do… how do I get the swelling to go down? It’s been 7 days. I give her the generic version of metcam .5 mg per kg for pain and swelling. It’s not working
For the swelling. I also put calendula cream on it.

***UPDATE***** almost 3 weeks and I have managed to squeeze out the infection a few mins ago. While I did do the Epsom salt, I think what really helped with the swelling is ARNICA GEL.

My treatment included, Epsom salt warm soak a few times. Then applied Arnica gel for swelling, neosporin at wound site, vetricyn antimicrobial spray, baking soda if there’s blood to stop bleeding. Antibacterial soap…and this natural “antibiotic” from durastat with oregano and PRID drawing salve.

I did the Prid drawing salve for about 4-5 days and the wound site busted open with more stringy ooze after I unwrapped under the gauze and vet wrap. I squeeze it out but not all came out and lots of blood. So I just treated it with neosporin and put gauze and vet wraps back for about another 3 days until the wound site “harden” and after that u can start to see a hard ball forming and needs to be squeezed out.

I have attached the products below and pics of her kernel when I just finally got it out. It was HUGE and came out in 3 parts.

I gave her .5 mg per kg so that’s about 1 mg for a 4.6 lb chicken..meloxicam aka metcam for pain —on and off for the 3 weeks. I only gave for 3 days after each treatment bc medication dehydrates.
