So I let my three hens out of the run today. I was supervising them (as I always do) and I noticed that as they all walked by this one area, each one of them stood and looked at the ground and made a low cluck noise. It lasted a few seconds and then they went back to foraging.

I walked over to see if it was a piece of trash I needed to pick up or something, and I found a rabbits nest! They must have really good eyesight, because I did not even see it at first

Our Newfy/Chow mix found a nest in our front yard about 7 weeks ago. He brought one to me and not knowing his own strength accidentally killed it. He certainly did not mean to as he was being extremely gentle with it. I recovered the nest and marked it to see if mama would return after another animal had been into the nest. She did not return after 30 hours so we brought the remaining 3 babies into the house. At that point they were about 3 days old. Over the next week we hand fed them with a syringe and special formula mix. We called the local rehabilitation specialist and she gave us some additional tips. Mortality for wild bunnies is 80% or greater in normal life. We ended up loosing two more. But we have a cute 7 week old girl in the house, in a cage, and growing like a weed. She is pretty spoiled and knows it. We have tried to reintroduce her back to the wild but she just freezes when you take her outside. Too big of world out there I guess. So for now she just keeps on being spoiled.
