My NHR and BA lay their eggs in mid-afternoon. What's wrong with them? I've read and heard that they're SUPPOSED to lay an hour before sunrise. Are they sick or something?

LOL, Ther is nothing wrong with them, sometimes mine will lay in the late afternoon to around 6 in the evening.

Your hens are just fine.
Their egg-laying cycle runs about 24-26 hours. My hens lay at different times, sometimes before 9am, sometimes around noon, sometimes a bit later, then will skip a day every few weeks.
Take a deep breath, relax...its ok!

Yeah mine have been moving into the late afternoon as well. I think it has to do with the fact that they all want to lay in the same nest box and so they've regulated themselves so they can take their own time slot. Drives me nuts because I have six places for them to lay and they all want to lay in the same darn nest!

Yep. mine do it too. Perfectly normal! I think it might be because it's still a little cold up here, even though we're only getting about 6 hours of darkness at night.

I have early shifters and late shifters as well. Totally normal. They can lay any time of day, and amount of feed, lack or lots of water, and weather can shift their schedules.

I have 7 hens and they all lay eggs at varying times of the day, up until about 4 or 5 in the afternoon. No worries!
