I grew up on my grandpas farm. He had chickens, turkeys, rabbits, hogs, cows, pheasants, quail, and horses.
I’ve always wanted chickens. Unfortunately I moved into town 15 years ago and they didn’t allow chickens. They just passed an ordinance to allow 4 hens.
I started my first coop build today. I was doing it alone, so it was a pain! My back yard isn’t the best but this is what I’ve got so far. It’s not leveled yet. I’ll be doing that part next.
It’ll be 8x8x7’ tall. The run will be 8’ wide by 20’ long now. I was going for 24’ long, but I’ll do 20’. I’d say it’s plenty big for 4 hens.
I’m doing a 8x8x7’ tall because our next move will be out to the country and I’ll step it up to 8-10 chickens.
For the base everything is treated lumber. I went with 4x4’s and 2x6’s. I’ll be using 3/4” thick treated sheeting for the floor.
Standard 2x4’s for the framing/roost box.
Depending on my work schedule I may get the coop leveled on the pavers, floor done, and the walls framed up this week.
More to come!
