I noticed this morning that one of my roosters was having trouble walking out of the coop. I picked him up, and found that both of his eyes were swollen and infected. He was shivering, and his breathing was raspy. I've got him isolated, with electrolytes and some Duramycin in his water, simply because that's all I know to give him right now.
Last fall, the same symptoms wiped out almost my entire flock. I never could figure out for sure what this disease was, but I really don't want to deal with it again. So, here's a list of the symptoms that I saw last fall, and this morning:
Shivering
Raspy, quick breathing
Infected, foamy, slightly swollen eyes
Runny nose
...I can't remember if there was a significant poop change...I'll check here in a bit.
'Sulking' in the corner...hiding
Skin going pale, comb and wattles turning slightly blue/purple...from lack of air I suppose.
Death
If I find anymore symptoms, I'll post them. Also, I tried to get a picture of his eyes. My camera didn't focus very well, but I'll post it anyway:
Yeah, the camera focused on the tuft of feathers closer to the lense. : /
If anyone has any ideas on what this disease is and/or how to treat it, I'd love to hear your opinions!
Thanks in advance!
