How do i get my chickens to stop scratching the hay out of the nesting area into the coop?

How old are your chickens and are they laying eggs?

They are going on two years old and they are laying yes.

When I have this problem it is young birds that are not laying that scratch out the bedding from nest boxes, or, older hens that are not laying. A taller lip on the nest boxes might help. I usually end up periodically adding bedding to the boxes.

The little stinkers just don't know what we go threw to make things good and i just added to the lip too lol they figured out how to build the material up and out. They just were doing so good.
