I don't know much about caring for ducks, but I think the dried grass is a good idea. BUT you also probably need to keep a lot at hand because, as you said, he eats every type of his bedding! ; )

You could try Lucerne pellets for bedding. You can get them at any produce store. If he eats them they wont hurt him.

The round one chickens are doing OK - avian pox is running through them and we are treating them systematically. No losses yet.
