Hello all. Just got our 2 new family members today from atwoods. We were told they are "Heavies" Any advice is appreciated and welcome. We have a 5 year old daughter and a 6 year old 4 legged daughter. Raising the chicks to be pets. Glad this site is around.

Howdy from a fellow Kansan, CrazyBlaize, and :welcome. Always great to welcome another Sunflower Stater to this site! Had no idea there were Atwoods stores in KS! If you are new to chicken keeping I can think of no better place to visit than the Learning Center here https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center
Lots of great informative articles to get you off to a good start. Also, should you have them, feel free to ask questions in the various forums. Lots of friendly and helpful folks here! To get you started...from the aforementioned Learning Center, here's a link to an article about raising chickens to be pets https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/how-to-raise-a-chicken-as-a-family-pet
Best wishes, enjoy your new pet chickens, and thanks for joining BYC! :)

Welcome to BYC! It's great to have you.

Heavies could indicate they are some kind of broiler, or that they are a heavy breed assortment. Or an employee could have picked a word out of thin air and stuck it on the bin. I don't trust feed stores to know a Barred Rock from a Sumatra.

from a former Kansan (in WY now)!

Nice to have you here, enjoy the chicks, they grow up fast!
