I got two new 1yr old hens yesterday and so far they are alright with my existing two 2yr old hens. These new hens were free range during the day and cooped at night. around goats, cows, ducks, and roasters freely. Didn't noticed where they would have laid their eggs at.

They were feed from a dish on the ground with pellets. I feed my hens from a feeder installed on the door and use crumble. They have been feed greens and scratch last night. Did fine pecking from the ground. But, this morning all they have been doing is sitting on the roost.

Will they figure out when to lay eggs and where? I have a fake egg in every box to help them. I know it is the first day but, I'm wondering will they adapt well to their new environment? What about feeding from the feeder?

PS I gave away 3 of my original 5 hens because of egg eating habit.

I think they will watch and learn. My new ones did.

I would have quarantined them first though. You could have brought any disease or mite etc home with them.
