Hello all, I am in the process of convincing my wife to raise some chickens. I am no stranger to raising birds, I have owned numerous parrots and similar indoor birds. I am looking just for hens only I don't think the neighbors would like roosters. I am thinking no more than four birds. My idea would be to get a Plymouth rock, silkie, easter egger and ? Any suggestions? They would have to be able to survive all four seasons we experience in SW PA and good with kids.

Any pointers would be welcome, I am doing as much online research as I can in my spare time.

Thank you
Craig

Black Australorp, Buff Orpington, Barred Rock, Speckled Sussex. BTW Silkies are not a truly hardy breed, and unless they are raised with other breeds from the start, they are often picked on because they don't look like regular chickens. They do generally make excellent broody hens and are children's favorite.
