Hi everyone,
I am a new chicken owner. I got 8 chickens from two different people this past August. 4 Black Astroplorp hens, 3 Ayam Cemani Ameraucana cross hens, 1 Black Cochin Rooster.
I let a hen hatch out a clutch of eggs. And got 8 mixed breed chicks. 3 turned out gray like their Ameraucana mom's, 4 turned out black like the Astrolorps and Cochin, and they all have fethered feet. One of the Black ones has a rusty chest and one of the gray ones has the darker gray head and eyes I think from the Ayam Cemani.
I am having so much fun with it all. Especially since the broody hen is doing such a good job raising the chicks, I don't have to do much for them! I just hope I get some good layers come Spring. Still not sure how many Cockrells vs pullets I have.

We are just starting our farm, the kids love the animals we have so far(cats and chickens) and it's been a great change for us! I love gardening and horses, and taking long walks.
I am so grateful my friend shared this community with me, I have already learned so much! Looking forward to learning more 😀.

Clearly, the friend who introduced you to BYC is a keeper! This is a great community of folks who are happy to share their experiences and expertise.

I LOVE feathered-footed chickens; thanks for sharing photos!

Best wishes for more pullets than cockerels, and Welcome to BYC! Let us know, please, how many of those sweet chicks are girls.
